Born in Bradford, West Yorkshire, Ben Gordon came through Leeds United's academy, and was signed by Chelsea from the Elland Road side in 2007. After signing for Chelsea he graduated up the youth system and eventually into the reserve team.
He made his Football League debut on 27 March 2010 while on loan at Tranmere Rovers during a 3–0 defeat to Brighton & Hove Albion.
In the summer of 2010, he signed for Scottish Premier League side Kilmarnock on loan.
A loan move to Scunthorpe United until the end of the Football League Championship season was agreed in January 2011, but the move was not completed until 7 February, after Gordon had fully recovered from a hamstring injury sustained while with Kilmarnock.
He joined Peterborough United for the first half of the 2011–12 season, but was recalled to Chelsea in late September because he failed to break into the first team.
Gordon rejoined Kilmarnock in January 2012 on loan until the end of the season. He played in the League Cup Final as Kilmarnock won by shocking eventual Scottish champions Celtic 1–0.
In August, Gordon joined Championship club Birmingham City on loan until 7 January 2013. After recovering from a thigh injury sustained in pre-season with Chelsea, he replaced the injured David Murphy in the starting eleven to make his Birmingham debut in a 2–0 defeat at Watford. He played only once more, in the League Cup defeat to Coventry City, and returned to Chelsea when his loan expired.
Gordon was one of five under-21 players released by Chelsea in January 2013.
Following his release by Chelsea, Gordon spent time on trial with Hull City playing for their reserve side. Gordon was also linked with a move back to Kilmarnock.
On 11 March 2013, Gordon signed for Football League One side Yeovil Town on a month contract. The following day, Gordon made his debut, playing 90 minutes and in the left-midfield position, in a 2–2 draw against Crawley Town.] Gordon went on to make two more appearance before being released by the club on 14 April 2013, just weeks before the end of the season.
Having been linked with a move to Blackpool and Notts County, Gordon moved to Scotland by joining Premier side Ross County on a one-year contract.
He then joined Colchester United in 2014. He has represented England at under-16, under-17 and under-20 levels.
